Makeup Splurges Worth the Saving

It's easy to spend a pretty penny on luxury makeup — how do you know it's worth it? Click through for a few products that are totally worth it!

When I do my makeup in the morning, I like to take my time. I go in and out of phases (cream shadow pencils = my jam these days), but for the most part, I don't wear the same makeup every day. I kinda go with with whatever I'm feeling on a particular day: lashes or no lashes, this foundation or that foundation or that other foundation, etc. It makes makeup feel creative and intuitive, and that's one of the things I love about it.

Let's be honest, though: we all have those things we go back to time and time again. We use them until they're empty, and if we're not on top of replacing them, we feel a little lost until we get new ones. I've mentioned some of mine before (ahem... MAC Mineralize Skinfinish powder), but in some recent reassessment of my makeup collection, three particularly splurge-worthy items stand out to me.

Now, I have my fair share of high-end makeup, and I could spend a fortune on drug-store makeup, but there's another level of makeup lines that you don't see at your regular old Sephora or Ulta. Okay maybe you can get them at Sephora, but in my neck of the woods, you definitely have to order them online cause no Sephora carries these brands. They may have an official name but I like to call them luxury lines... they're your Tom Ford, Chanel, Dior, Kevin Aucoin, etc. and they are high quality makeup. Hard to pull the trigger and spend the money, but totally worth it if you do.

There are three times in my life I've been able to pull the trigger on makeup splurges, and I have absolutely no regrets:

Guerlain Maxi Lash Mascara, $30

I got a sample of this with an order from Sephora and I was immediately hooked. Once, when I got a facial, my esthetician asked what mascara I use because after she removed it she saw what a difference it had made in the volume of my lashes! I love this mascara because it provides buildable volume without getting super clumpy. It's tough to drop $30 on mascara, but this is by far my favorite mascara of all time.

Kevin Aucoin The Sculpting Powder, $44

This is my favorite powder for contouring because it doesn't even have a tiny bit of orange in it. I'm fair-skinned, so bronzers tend to be on the warm side for me. If I use them for contouring, it looks kinda muddy and gross. Enter the Sculpting Powder! Super-pigmented, long-lasting, and great for contouring. Check plus.

Chanel Perfection Lumiere Foundation, $58

My eyes bugged out when I saw that this foundation is $58, and there was major conflict going on in my head when I handed over the cash. It's needless to say that I don't use it every day because it would be gone in a flash, but this foundation was totally worth every penny. It's their highest coverage foundation, but it's not super heavy. Maybe I just like it because someone actually matched the color to my skin tone instead of me guessing, but I love the coverage and the finish. I may not be able to run right out and replace it when it's empty, but I'll definitely miss it when it's gone.

Do you splurge on your makeup every once in a while? Or all the time? :) What's your favorite splurge-worthy makeup?
